Magic Beans uses Notion databases to visualize, store and enrich your data. Every product is powered by a Notion database and its properties.
When you connect your Notion account to Magic Beans, we use Notion API to fetch your data and create interactive charts or invoice documents. We never store a single bit in our servers, all your data remains in your Notion workspace.
If you connect your bank account, we will store your transactions and balance data in your Notion databases. Again, it flows directly from your bank to your workspace, we don’t store anything ourselves.
Magic Beans is compatible with any database, so you can use our defaults or replace them by your own ones.
You can go to Settings → Configuration to see the all the databases that are being used by the different products.

To replace a database, just press on the desired one and search the new database in the selector menu. Keep in mind that just databases shared with Magic Beans will be listed, so if you miss any database tap on “Adjust Permissions” and make sure it’s selected.
Every product requires different database properties. You can view and edit these properties from the Notion Sync Engine sidebar on the top right corner of every page.
The first thing you will see is the connected database that is being used. If you want to locate it inside your workspace, you can tap on the arrow icon to open your Notion.
On the left side of the sidebar you will find the values used by a product to work. On the right side you will find the selected property from your database that is being used to pull data from.
Not all the values are required, so use only the ones that make sense for your use case.
Most product values work with specific property types. For example, the Total value for Transactions only accepts Number property type.
When you tap on a value, a picker menu will appear listing all the properties in your database with the required type. If no property is listed make sure that you have at least one from the required type.
